Ibanez GRG170DX-BKN Electric Guitar. The GRG170DX features Ibanez pickups, a synchronized tremolo bridge and a rosewood fingerboard with sharktooth inlays. It is produced in both China and Indonesia for different markets around the world and as such the specs vary slightly by market.

The GRG170DX, which was also known as the GRG170D in Japan, is an RG series solid body electric guitar model introduced by Ibanez for 2004. It has been a part of the entry-level GIO line since the line’s introduction in 2004; prior to that it was known as the RG170DX. It has been produced in both Indonesia and China with Chinese production starting one year after the launch in 2005 and Indonesian production ceasing after 2017.

For 2018 the rosewood fretboard was changed to treated New Zealand pine for those GRG170DX models sold in Asia. Later in 2018 the rosewood fretboard for European models was changed to Jatoba. For 2019 the body wood species was switched back to poplar, the FAT-10 tremolo was replaced with the T102 and the fretboard was switched to treated New Zealand pine in all markets. For 2020 the fretboard was changed to purpleheart. For 2021 several changes were introduced exclusively for those guitars sold in China: the fretboard was changed to rosewood, the body material was changed to basswood and the tremolo was reverted to the FAT-10; there were no changes introduced in other markets for 2021.
