How a USB microphone works
- How it connects: one USB cable straight into a laptop or PC (and many phones with a USB-C adapter). The mic has its own built-in sound card, so no audio interface is needed.
- Best for: solo podcasts, online classes, Zoom, streaming and voice-over at a desk.
- Dynamic or condenser? In a normal Bangladeshi room with fans, traffic and echo, a dynamic USB mic picks up less of the room. Condensers sound more detailed but need a quiet, treated room.
- Common mistake: buying an audio interface for a USB-only mic. It will not plug in. If you may grow into a mixer later, pick a USB + XLR hybrid such as the Maono PD200X or Rode PodMic USB.
- Two people? Two USB mics on one computer is unreliable. Use two XLR mics and a 2-input interface instead.
