Studio monitors vs ordinary speakers

What they are: powered speakers tuned to sound flat and honest, so a mix that sounds right on them sounds right everywhere. Ordinary and PA speakers boost bass and treble.
How they connect: balanced TRS or XLR cables from the monitor outputs of your audio interface. Each monitor needs its own power socket.
Size: 5-inch suits most bedroom studios; 8-inch needs a larger room and some bass treatment.
Placement: tweeters at ear height, forming a triangle with your head, a little away from the wall.
